The Science Behind the Product
This unique product is waterproof and does not kiss off, smear off, rub off, or budge off! And, just as important it does not dry out your lips. In fact, it restores the moisture content of your lips when used properly. LipSense Liquid Lip Color can last anywhere between 4 and 18 hours.
LipSense is a non-wax liquid lip color that stays on your skin. LipSense provides a natural shield from the sun. The proprietary formulations and color pigments in LipSense help create a mechanical covering for the lips. That means the skin on your lips are protected from the sun’s rays by the color pigments, therefore your lips are more protected from harmful rays. That is just one of the reasons your lips become so smooth and soft with consistent use of LipSense.:
The patented formulation technology includes Cosmetic grade Denatured Alcohol, which is nothing close to Isopropyl Alcohol–or rubbing alcohol. In fact, you need Denatured Alcohol to apply LipSense to lips. While rubbing alcohol instantly removes LipSense from the skin. We do not recommend the use of rubbing alcohol on the skin because it dries out the skin. LipSense is formulated with Denatured Alcohol because:
It is thinner than water and suspends the tiny particles within the formula.
It immediately evaporates from the skin upon the delivery of the technology to the skin. (The “tingling” sensation felt on the lips, when some wearers first begin to use the color, is the evaporation process of the Denatured Alcohol felt within the dry cracks of the lips. This sensation disappears as lower layers of skin’s moisture content are restored by the use of the moisturizing gloss.)
Tiny Particles: The particles that help the color pigments to molecularly bind to the skin (see Ingredient listing). Over time, the particles begin to detach from the skin’s surface. The rate at which this occurs varies tremendously and is based upon the pH-balance of each person’s skin and the color they’ve chosen to wear for the day.
Color Pigments: Each tube of color has a varied formulation and mixture of color pigments to arrive at a specific color. Some colors naturally last longer than others because of the different body chemistry of each wearer, plus some colors are thicker or richer in color pigmentations, while others are sheer and thinner.
Layering LipSense: Layering LipSense is a must due to the fact the color breaks down with the pH balance of the skin.
1st layer: touches the skin’s pH and will begin to break down first and fastest.
2nd layer: protected from the bottom, away from the skin’s pH, by the first layer.
3rd layer: protects the second layer from the top down and prevents sheering of second layer of color by keeping away friction, saliva, and the natural environment. The third layer breaks down just like the first layer, but from the top down. The second layer is sandwiched between the first and third and is protected by both for the longest period of use.
Mica: LipSense Lip Colors formulated with Micas do not tend to wear as long as the solid matte shades of LipSense. Micas create shine and shimmer. They reflect light and are made of particles that are larger than color pigments. Micas and may flick off the skin with regular skin movements. Talking and scraping lip movements like drinking from a cup can facilitate this process. You can assume up to an hour of less wear when wearing a Mica color.
Glossing: It is important to know the long-lasting properties of LipSense are enhanced by any of the LipSense moisturizing glosses. The gloss products also help to keep the lips moist and plump.
Key Ingredients and Benefits
LipSense Long-Lasting Liquid Lip Color is made of a combination of ingredients. Here are a few key components:
Denatured Alcohol: used as a delivery system for the color technology; creates a germ and bacteria-free environment.
Paeonia Suffruticosa Root (Tree Peony) Extract: a natural calming plum flower herb.
Hypericum Perforatum (St. John’s Wort) Extract: also known as St John’s Wort, a natural herb used to elavate mood and treat depressions.
Tilia Cordata (Linden) Flower Extract: a natural flower extract rich in flavonoids and a powerful anti-oxidant.
Isodonis Japonicus Extract: Fragrant plant extract that contains terpenes, shown to have medicinal properties to soothe skin.
Mica: an earth mineral used to give products sparkle and shine. Titanium Dioxide: an inert earth mineral used as a thickening ingredient and sunscreen in cosmetics. It protects skin from UVA and UVB radiation and is considered to have no risk of skin irritation.
Note: Just as important as what is in LipSense, is what is not! LipSense is formulated with no wax, lead, or animal by-products.
Q) Why should first time customers purchase LipSense Starter Collection?
A) The Starter Collection includes a LipSense Liquid Lip Color, Glossy Gloss and Ooops! Remover. The long-lasting properties of the LipSense color product are enhanced by using one of the LipSense Moisturizing Glosses. LipSense Glosses were formulated to work with the long-lasting technology of LipSense whereas other gloss formulations may break down the staying power of LipSense. In addition, the Moisturizing Glosses help to keep the lips moist and plump. The Ooops! Remover is especially designed to erase those Ooops! mistakes that can occur when applying the Lip Color. As a person eats and drinks, the Gloss comes off and needs to be reapplied a few times during the day to keep the color renewed and increase its staying power. If you are using the product properly you will see that the color will last all day long.
Q) How long does each product last? Especially if you are using 3 layers with the lip color.
A) When one color is used every day the lip color lasts 4-6 months. Your product will last two years after opening and five years unopened.
Q) What preservative is present in LipSense?
A) There is no preservative in LipSense. It is self-preserved. The liquid delivery system naturally kills germs and bacteria.
Q) I feel a tingling sensation when I apply the LipSense Color, what is this?
A) The first time you try LipSense it can tingle. This is because the lips are dry and not sufficiently moisturized. Those without dry lips do not notice this. The sensation will stop once you have finished the application and applied the moisturizing gloss. After you have used the Gloss for a day or two you will rarely ever experience the tingling again. Dry lips can be caused by repeated use of wax and paraffin based lipsticks, which, by their nature, can cause dry lip tissue. You can eliminate this by conditioning the lips for a few days and not using any wax based products. Once you use the LipSense and the Moisturizing Gloss on a regular basis the dry lips will be gone forever.
Q) Does the product contain Lead?
A) No, LipSense or any SeneGence product DOES NOT and NEVER HAS contained lead as an ingredient.
Q) Does SeneGence have any LipSense or Lip Gloss that are both free of wheat and gluten?
A) Yes, our Lip color and gloss do NOT contain wheat or gluten.
Q) Do we have any formaldehyde in LipSense?
A) No Formaldehyde.
Q) Why does my LipSense not stay on and peel off?
A) The color technology works a little differently on each user due to different pH factors. Also, the long-lasting color technology can be impacted by medications a consumer may be taking. You may find some shades work better on your lips than others. Make sure you use only three layers of color. If the color is too thick it may peel off.
Q) The lip colors appear to be slightly different shades from time-to-time. Why?
A) Just like in wall paper, tile and fabric, it is not unusual to have some variation in color from one product run to another because the color pigments we use are from natural sources. Our formulators try earnestly to match each run to the prior for consistency but there can be minute variations.
Q) Is there an SPF for the glosses?
Q) Which glosses contain mica?
A) Any gloss that is shiny, Pearlized, or Glittered may have mica.
Q) Why does our lip gloss have paraffin in it? It also has shea butter in it but how can the shea butter penetrate the wax to heal our lips?
A) Shea butter has a lower molecular weight(that means the molecule is smaller) than paraffin…so it does not have to penetrate paraffin, it’s there on the skin “ahead” of the wax. The reason for the petrolatum/paraffin is to create a barrier to prevent moisture (water) from leaving the lips.
Q) Why do I need an Ooops! Remover?
A) In the event it is necessary to remove the color from lips or to help any Oops! you may make when applying. It can also be helpful in attempting to remove spilled lip color on clothing.
Q) Can I combine colors?
